About
Grayson Perry, the Turner-Prize winning artist, has created a sculpture honouring craftsmen (and women) through the ages, at the centre of which is a stone-age flint tool. Historically, stone tools were first replaced by bronze and then the much harder iron, which enabled the emergence of more and more skilled crafts-people, many of whom worked in precious metals and, my medium, wood, creating ornate and beautiful carvings.
An interest in Sheffield tools, a love of art and of wood in particular, led me to take up the ancient art of traditional woodcarving in 2002. In this hi-tech age of mass-production, even woodcarvings can be speedily done with power tools, but all my work is crafted using only hand-held chisels and gouges; resulting in a completely unique piece of art.
I particularly enjoy lettering and welcome commissions; e.g memorial plaques, lines of poetry, house names and numbers. I search for interesting pieces of wood and produce work for both inside and outside.

Commissions Welcomed
House names and numbers, your family motto, favourite sayings or memorial plaques carved in wood.
